* Kükemező, May 8, 1845 – † Budapest, October 4, 1905 / physician, surgeon, university; teacher; ; He was a descendant of an old noble family. He graduated from high school in Pest in 1864. In 1864, he also began his medical studies at the University of Sciences here, but in 1866 he transferred to the University of Vienna, where he obtained his medical doctorate in 1870. While still a student, in 1869, one of his scientific dissertations caused a great stir at the Vienna Academy of Sciences. From 1870 to 1875, he worked as a junior physician and surgical intern at the Vienna General Hospital. In 1876, he made a one-year study trip to Germany (Strassburg), France (Paris) and Great Britain (London, Edinburgh), where he became acquainted with the latest surgical methods and the antiseptic procedure of Joseph Lister (1827–1912). He returned to Budapest in January 1877, where he began working in the department of Professor of Surgery Sándor Lumniczer (1821–1892) and spread antiseptic wound treatment. From May 1880, he was qualified as a private teacher of surgery and wound treatment at the University of Budapest. From 1884, he was the chief physician of the surgical department of the Red Cross Hospital in Budapest. His research areas were primarily wound treatment, surgical pathology and surgery. He was among the first to introduce Lister's antiseptic method in Hungary.
