* Szakolca, March 30, 1787 – † Pannonhalma, February 10, 1875 / Benedictine monk, teacher, historian, archivist, corresponding member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (1858) ; ; Born into a Protestant family, he converted to the Catholic faith in 1796. He began his schooling in his hometown, Győr, where he also learned the Hungarian language and studied humanities. In October 1802, he entered the Benedictine order, which was again permitted, and between 1803 and 1809, he completed philosophy and theology in Győr and Pannonhalma. He taught in Nagyszombat, Bratislava, Győr, and Pannonhalma (in Győr, Ferenc Deák was also his student). From 1829 to 1843 he was the secretary of the abbot in Pannonhalma, from 1843 he was archivist and librarian there, and from 1870 he was the director of the library. He organized the 75,000-volume library and prepared the repertoire of the archival material. He mainly dealt with Árpád-era charters and church history. His work on the writers of the Benedictine order remained in manuscript. He was also a contributor to the Universal Hungarian Encyclopedia.
