* Prešov, 7 November 1928 – / linguist, Hungarianologist; ; He graduated from his hometown in 1948, obtained a teaching certificate in biology-philosophy-natural history at the Comenius University in Bratislava in 1953, and then graduated from the Hungarian department at the Pedagogical College in 1955. In 1953–1958, he taught biology at the Hungarian department of the Pedagogical College in Bratislava, in 1958–1960 he taught at the Hungarian grammar school in Košice, and in 1960–1962 at the Hungarian grammar school in Bratislava. In 1962–1989, he was an assistant professor at the Department of Hungarian Language and Literature at the Comenius University in Bratislava. In 1971, he obtained a doctorate in humanities from the Charles University in Prague. He primarily dealt with linguistics and literary translation theory, but also wrote studies on cultural history. He translated František Miko's work From Epic to Lyric (2000), for which he received the Imre Madách Translation Award (2001).
