* Wolfenbüttel/Germany, November 14, 1763 – † Selmecbánya, May 25, 1832 / forester, naturalist, founder of forestry education in Hungary ; ; He studied medicine, mining, and then mathematics. He began his career as a private tutor at the University of Göttingen, then he was the first teacher at the Forestry Institute founded in Kemnote near Waltershausen and which existed for a short time. After its closure, he became the first teacher at the Forestry Institute in Selmecbánya in 1808. The material of his lectures has survived to us in five volumes, handwritten notes in German. Volume I is from 1814, the others from 1815, and is currently kept by the library of the University of Forestry and Wood Industry in Sopron. His lectures covered almost the entire range of forestry sciences, from the preparation of forestry plans and maps, through architectural, botanical and legal knowledge, to mining carpentry. The building in Selmecbánya (the Sembery house on Szentháromság tér) where he gave his lectures is marked by a memorial plaque in Slovak. His grave in Selmecbánya is no longer to be found, the memorial column erected by his admirers in 1912 was demolished after 1919. In 1958, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the founding of the Forestry Academy, a monument was erected in his honor in the Botanical Garden of the University of Sopron. ; ; Main Work: ; Die Anfangsgründe der künstlichen Holzzucht…, 1800.
