* Bagyan, January 29, 1742 – † Jolsva, September 29, 1824 / literary and church writer; ; András Vályi, writing about Bagyan, states, among other things: This place is famous for the birth of Mr. Pál Valaszki here, who earned himself a good reputation and merit with his distinguished work on Hungarian Literature. He studied in Selmecbánya from 1753, in Rimaszombat from 1756, and in Bratislava from 1757–1767. In the meantime, he was a teacher from 1761–1763. In 1767–1769, he studied at various universities in Germany (Leipzig, Halle, Wittenberg, Berlin). During his studies, he worked on supplementing Mihály Rotarides’ Hungarian literary history material. After his return home, he was an Evangelical pastor in Tótkomlós from 1769, in Cinkota from 1780, and in Jolsva from 1783, and a deacon in Gömör. He was the first systematic writer of Hungarian literary history.
