World War II memorial

The First World War claimed many victims throughout Zoboralja. Most recruits were drafted into the 14th Infantry Regiment in Nitra, and then sent to the front from there. Most ended up on the Russian side, but we know of cases when some fought on the Italian front near the Isonzo, e.g. on the Doberdó plateau. In Alsóbod, according to our knowledge, twelve people died on different fronts. The Second World War also claimed its victims, the count of whom has not yet been completed. The front passed through the village, the Germans settled in the school, and after they left it, the Russian army appeared here on March 28, 1945. The ammunition remnants left behind by the front were life-threatening and caused numerous accidents. In 1973, posterity established a monument with a Hungarian-Slovak inscription in memory of the victims of the two wars. Its Hungarian inscription reads: IN MEMORY OF THE SOLDIERS WHO FALLEN IN THE FIRST AND SECOND WORLD WARS. The elevated pyramid-shaped stone obelisk was covered with greenish slate, a small garden was planted in front of it, the fence of which was decorated with red five-pointed stars in accordance with the ideology of the time. The memorial site became the scene of numerous commemorations and pioneering events. The stars were torn out of political defiance by the residents, the light of the monument was worn out and it fell into a neglected state due to its communist character. The monument was renovated around 2010 as part of a land-use planning project, it was stylized with a low stone wall, a bench was placed next to it, and it was landscaped again. The obelisk was given a lighter stone covering, and a cross made of black material was placed on top. Today, more young people are also visiting it, but for example, on All Souls' Day, many people light candles in front of it for the spiritual well-being of the lost earthly people.
