Alexander Varga

* Hetény, November 6, 1942 – archivist, historian ; ; He completed his primary school education in his native village (1955), and graduated from the gymnasium in Komárom (1959). From 1959, he studied first at the Pedagogical College in Nitra, then at the Comenius University in Bratislava, where he obtained a diploma in history and archival studies (1966), and his doctorate in humanities in 1975. In 1968–1970, he was the secretary of the Csemadok KB, then its lecturer. Between 1971–1989, he worked at the Central State Archives in Bratislava. From December 1989 to June 1990, he was the Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of the Slovak Republic. From 1 July 1990 to 1993, he was again an employee of the State Central Archives, from 1994 he was the archivist of the Csemadok OT, and from 1995 to 2005 he was the Slovak secretary of the Board of Trustees of the Illyés Public Foundation. As a student, he was actively involved in Hungarian youth organizations in Slovakia. In 1968, he was one of the founders of the Hungarian Youth Association (MISZ). From 1978 to 1989, he was a member of the Committee for the Protection of the Rights of the Hungarian Minority in Czechoslovakia. In 1991, he established the short-lived National Documentation Center. He also writes journalism, publishing his articles primarily in the Vienna Journal. As a historian, he primarily dealt with the technical history of 19th-century Hungary, the beginnings of telephony in Hungary, and the history of the development of Hungarian youth movements in the Highlands. In 1993, he edited the collection of data, documents and studies entitled Hungarians in Slovakia. He currently lives in Bratislava.
