Vakáró, Gypsy bread. Bodag, also known as vakáró, punya, or vakárcs, is one of the most famous dishes of Gypsy cuisine. There are many different recipes for vakáró, from the original poor bodag, to the luxe bodag. ; According to the original recipe, you need flour, water, and salt, from which you knead dough. I shape the rested dough into flatbreads. I bake it in a baking pan or on the back of it, but the real treat is baked on the stove top. ; It can be served with many different dishes, stew, ragout, stuffed cabbage. My husband likes it best with this, but sometimes we also eat it with a little fat and red pepper. ; ; Ingredients: ; 1 kg of plain flour, 1 packet of baking powder, 2 teaspoons of salt, a pinch of yeast, 3.5 dcl of lukewarm water ; ; In a mixing bowl, mix all the ingredients into a dough, let it rest for 1/2 hour, then shape it into loaves. Bake in a lined baking tray at 180 C for approx. 15-20 minutes. ; ; I highly recommend the original recipe! Bon appetit! ; Mónika Ruszó, Bátka
