* Budatin, October 12, 1862 – † Budapest, March 21, 1914 / physician, physiologist, university professor, member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences ; ; He obtained his medical degree from the University of Budapest in 1883. In 1883–1886 he worked as an intern at one of the internal medicine clinics of the University of Budapest. In 1886–1887 he studied medical chemistry at the University of Strasbourg. In 1887–1890 he worked at the University of Freiburg, where he became a private teacher of medical chemistry in 1889. After returning home, he was an assistant teacher and laboratory manager at his previous workplace, and from 1891 he was a private teacher of medical chemistry. Between 1893 and 1910, he became a full professor of physiology at the University of Cluj-Napoca, during which time he was twice dean of the medical faculty (1895-1896 and 1902-1903), and in 1909-1910 he was the rector of the university. In 1910, he returned to Budapest, where he was a professor of physiology until his death. ; In 1909, he became a corresponding member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, and a year later, a full member. His scientific research was primarily related to the physiological role of carbohydrates and the method of their detection.
