George Tolgyessy

* Dunaszerdahely, January 27, 1931 – / radiochemist, university professor ; ; He began his school studies in his hometown, graduating in Komárom in 1949. In 1949–1953 he was a student at the Faculty of Chemical Engineering of the Slovak Technical University in Bratislava. From 1952 he taught there at the Department of Analytical Chemistry. In 1962 he was habilitated as an associate professor. He obtained the title of Doctor of Chemical Sciences in 1968 at the Lomonosov University in Moscow. Between 1959 and 1978 he was a lecturer at the Department of Radiochemistry of the Faculty of Chemical Engineering. In 1978 he founded and headed the Department of Environmental Chemistry and Technology of the Slovak Technical University (later the Slovak Technical University) until 1996. Between 1996 and 2005, he taught at the Department of Chemistry at the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the Bél Mátyás University in Bánya-Biszterce, and between 1997 and 2002, he also lectured at the Department of Chemistry at the Pannonian University in Mosonmagyaróvár. He was a guest lecturer in many countries around the world (from Albania to France and Germany to Thailand and the USA). He retired permanently in 2006. His field of expertise is radiochemistry and radiochemical analysis. He created a school in Slovakia and trained many distinguished students. He wrote his PhD thesis, which he defended in Prague, on radiometric titrations. In his doctoral dissertation, he dealt with the radiometric indication method used to determine the equivalence point of volumetric analysis. In 1973, he was appointed professor of nuclear chemistry. In 1968, he was one of the founders and for many years the editor-in-chief of the international scientific journal Journal of Radioanalytical and Nuclear Chemistry. In addition to his scientific work, he is also involved in writing textbooks and disseminating knowledge.
