* Jászó, October 23, 1801 – † Pirano, December 20, 1884 / Premontrean monk, apostolic confessor, algologist, zoologist ; ; He became a member of the Premontrean order in 1823, and was ordained a priest in 1828. He was a Latin teacher in Levoča, Arad, and then in Kézdivásárhely. He wrote and preached in many languages (Hungarian, German, Slovak, Czech, Ruthenian, Croatian), which is why he was called up as a camp chaplain and served in the Leiningen-Westerburg infantry regiment in Przemysl, and then in Dalmatia from 1846. He studied the fauna and algae of the Adriatic Sea and the coast and created a large collection. He found 64 species of algae that had not previously appeared in the literature, but he did not publish this himself, so he is not listed anywhere as their discoverer. In 1850–1851 he worked in Arad, then was called back to service. In August 1852, his superior appointed him apostolic confessor and then he left the army for good. In 1854, he settled in Spalato and continued his research, then from 1856 he was abbot of Levski. Later he went back to Dalmatia and lived there until his death. Several marine animals he discovered were named after him. He donated specimens from his collection to almost all European universities.
