* Nagyszombat, June 18, 1816 – † Budapest, August 2, 1898 / classical philologist, university professor, corresponding member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (1864) ; ; In 1832–1834 he studied at the Nagyszombat Catholic Seminary. In 1834 he earned a doctorate in humanities at the University of Pest. From 1834 he was a student at the Pazmaneum in Vienna. In 1837 he left the seminary and worked as a clerk in Trieste. In 1838 he took the law exam in Pest. From 1841 he practiced law. From 1846 he was a professor of Greek language and literature at the University of Pest, from 1852 he was an extraordinary professor of classical philology, and from 1868–1886 he was a regular professor. He published papers on the ancient and modern Greek language and literature.
