* Szomolnok, January 23, 1858 – † Budapest, May 6, 1929 / metallurgical engineer, chief mining advisor ; ; younger brother of Gusztáv Tavy. After graduating from the Košice high school, he was a forestry apprentice for a short time in the estate of Count Ede Károlyi Füzérradvány, then between 1876 and 1879 he studied metallurgy at the Selmecbánya Academy. He spent a year in Nagybánya, then from 1880 he became a lecturer at the Selmec Academy. For two years he was an assistant to Rezső Schréder (Zólyom) in the department of metallurgy – design of metallurgical plants, then he was transferred to the department of architecture. In 1883 he was sent on a study trip to Germany by the Ministry of Finance and after that he no longer taught, but was the head of the gold exchange and chemical analysis office in Zalatna. Later he was transferred to Budapest. In 1917 he was given the title of Chief Mining Advisor.
