* Szomolnok, 1855 – † Oravicabánya, January 14, 1920 / forestry engineer ; ; brother of Károly Tavy. He completed his secondary school studies in Košice. He obtained a forestry engineering diploma at the Selmecbánya Academy. After that, he worked in Máramarossziget and then in Bánya Bisztercebánya within the framework of the forestry administration. Between 1892 and 1896, he dealt with the issue of treasury forests in the Ministry of Agriculture. In 1897, he became the head of the department. From the autumn of 1905, he was the director of the large Banat forest estates of the Austrian-Hungarian State Railways. In this capacity, he reorganized the entire manorial forestry, established two large wood distillation plants, developed the forest railway network, wood floating equipment and built a large water storage dam in Ferencfalva.
