Spring (Lajos Teichengraber)

* Igló, 2 August 1814 – † Igló, 28 January 1877 / pedagogical writer, military officer. ; ; He was a descendant of an Evangelical bourgeois family of zip-maker origin. He completed his lower schools in his hometown, Losonc and Sárospatak. In 1831–1836, he studied theology and philosophy in Lőcsén, while also learning English, French and Italian. Orphaned early, he supported himself as a private tutor to his fellow students. Between 1836 and 1839, he was tutored in Acsán by the family of Baron Albert Prónay, after which he studied at the universities of Jena, Halle, Göttingen and Berlin, and finally obtained a doctorate in humanities at the University of Jena. Returning home in 1842, he tutored again for a year, then from 1843 he was appointed to the ecclesiastical faculty of the Pest ev. He worked as a grammar school teacher. As a military officer (last time with the rank of captain) he participated in the Hungarian War of Independence of 1848/49 and after being captured, he was conscripted as a private into the imperial army and sent to Italy. Six months later he became the tutor of the son of the Austrian general Grawert, then in 1851 he was demobilized and Igló was designated as his forced residence, where he was a tutor for the Nadler family. From 1855 until his death he was a teacher at the Igló grammar school, and in 1867–1868 he was its director.
