Beer-drinking lads in the pub yard

Other - other

A livestock fair was organized two or three times a year on the village pastures on the outskirts of the village. For a long time, the ticket office also stood, where market-goers could take care of official matters and fill out the passes. Market-goers came here from all over the area. You could buy everything, even musical instruments. Such a fair was an occasion for great revelry. The young men had fun to the music of the musicians who came to the fair. A violin, a zither, or in the past a cimbalom that could be hung around the neck, as we heard in other parts of Csallóköz, were suitable for such a purpose. Before World War II, the people of Balony also had some of these instruments. For example, my paternal grandfather, József Nagy, a farmer from Balony, played the violin. But we know that Antal Horváth, Péter Csicsay and even others had violins. ; József Nagy (second from the left). ; ; (Iván Nagy: Strengthening hearts, folk music monograph of Balony village, 1998, Gyurcsó István Foundation booklets 11.)
