Joseph Szentgyorgyi

* Csallóközaranyos, 22 February 1765 – † Debrecen, 1 January 1832 / physician, naturalist, linguist ; ; He completed his secondary education in Bratislava, Nagykőrös and Debrecen. After preparing for a medical career, he studied at the University of Vienna and interned in the public hospitals there. After obtaining his doctorate, he settled in Győröt in 1794, but in 1796 he was called to Nagykőrös, where he served until 1799. At that time he moved to Debrecen and was the city's chief physician until his death. He also treated Mihály Csokonai Vitéz. In addition to his work as a healer, he wrote poetry, studied linguists and studied natural sciences. He also dealt with zoology. He was a good friend of Ferenc Kazinczy, with whom he corresponded.
