Gyula Soltz

* Igló, March 1, 1837 – † Budapest, September 16, 1913 / forestry engineer, statistician ; ; He studied at the Selmecbánya Mining and Forestry Academy in 1858–1861. He then worked in Körmöcbánya, Bélabánya, Selmecbánya and Diósgyőr. Between 1871 and 1893, he lectured on forest valuation, forest planning, forest value calculation, statistics and forest history at the Selmec Academy. During his teaching career, he actively contributed to the development of the Hungarian forestry language and the creation of Hungarian-language forestry literature and specialized education. In 1895, he became the head of the forestry department of the Ministry of Agriculture, and in 1897 he was appointed national chief forester. He retired in 1904. He published several articles in the Forestry Journals. His most important work is: The Handbook of Forest Estimation (with Lajos Fekete), 1882.
