Imre Sebő's band

Other - other

After the Second World War, a village band was formed, led by Imre Sebő. This band no longer tried to play traditional music, but music they learned from the radio or records. They learned harmonization from a gypsy cimbalom player, but there were violinists (L. Németh) who learned from József Nagy. They played in a prim, tercprim, accordion, cimbalom, bass line-up, which was later supplemented by drums. They also played the popular bourgeois dances, the bridal dance. Until the seventies, they were invited to all major balls, weddings, and the surrounding villages. With their dissolution, all instrumental folk music in the traditional sense ceased in the village. ; László Németh (born October 11, 1933), born in Balony, was already known as a musician of excellent talent at a young age. “I don’t know if he went to music school, it’s just a matter of hearing.” He played in the band formed after the war, and after the death of Imre Sebő he became the leader of the band. He even played the melody of the bridal dance and the candlelight dance. They played music at farewells and weddings, and toured the whole area. “I loved it very much. My mother loved it too. ... When I got married, I went to work, right ... I loved being at home, I wanted to have a family, but - what a son, because it was fun for him. And in reality, I loved that too.” ; Béla Nagy (born: June 28, 1931) was born in Balony, into a small peasant family. He lived his entire youth and boyhood there. He considered himself a real Balony fan, even when he had not lived there for a long time. His grandfather also played music in his family, playing the violin, and then he also tried his hand at this instrument, and his younger brother played the accordion. They both played in Imre Sebő's band. ; (Iván Nagy: Strengthening Hearts, Balony Village Folk Music Monograph, 1998, Gyurcsó István Foundation booklets 11.)
