He completed his elementary school studies in Barka, Gömör County, and his secondary school studies at the Zenta High School in 1909. He obtained his diploma from the Mining and Forestry Academy in Selmecbánya in 1913. Between 1913 and 1918, he served in the state forestry (Orsova, Lugos, Besztercebánya), primarily dealing with the construction of small forest railways. From 1918, he worked at the Department of Geodesy of the Selmec Academy alongside Sándor Jankó (®Selmecbánya), and after Jankó's death, he became the head of the department in Sopron (1923). In 1925–1927 he also completed a degree in geotechnical engineering at the Vienna University of Technology. In 1944 he prevented the Arrow Cross from moving the University of Sopron to Germany. In 1948 he was the president of the National Forestry Association, and in 1962 he was an honorary doctor of the University of Sopron. He recognized the importance of photogrammetry32 early on in terms of forestry, and introduced teaching it as an independent subject.
