He began his career in 1898 as an assistant editor of the Vasárnapi Újság. He was then also a collaborator of the Huszadik Század. He was a collaborator of Nyugat from the beginning (1908), one of its leading critics. From 1909, he was the literary secretary of the Franklin Society. From 1918, he was the general secretary of the Vörösmarty Academy, and between 1919 and 1923, he was the literary columnist of the daily newspaper Szózat. In 1926, he was one of the organizers of the Hungarian PEN Club. Between 1933 and 1942, he was a contributor to the magazine Tükör, where he ran the theatre section. From 1936, he was a member of the Kisfaludy Society. From 1941, he was the curator of the Baumgarten Prize and the co-editor of the Magyar Csillag alongside Gyula Illyés. He played a significant role in getting Endre Ady, Zsigmond Móricz and others recognized. He translated a lot from English, French and German. He edited the Hungarian Theatre Arts Lexicon. He wrote numerous smaller studies and essays on the prominent creators of Hungarian literature, portrait sketches of the classics of world literature. In many studies, he dealt with the role of Pál Gyulai, Jenő Péterfy and Hugó Ignotus. He also got involved in the literary debates of the 1920s and 1930s, wrote his writings with a conciliatory and conciliatory intention, and outlined; the political background of the literary schism, gave a comprehensive picture of the literature of the turn of the century, primarily the significance of the West. He also wrote poems, novels and plays.
