* Nagyszombat, November 1, 1864 – † Giessen, December 16, 1933 / mathematician, university professor, corresponding member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (1902) ; ; He completed his university studies in Heidelberg and Berlin, where he received his doctorate in 1887, and was qualified as a private teacher in 1889. In 1897, he was an extraordinary professor in Bonn, and from 1897 to 1911, he was a public full professor of mathematics at the University of Cluj. In 1911, he was appointed to Budapest, but in the same year he was invited to Giessen as a university professor, and he retired in 1930. He mainly dealt with the topic of function theory and linear differential equations. He was one of the continuers of Gauss's complex function theory investigations and introduced several of his students to these researches. He achieved results in the development of the theory of ordinary differential equations with complex variables, and was one of the most outstanding experts on this issue at that time. His investigations still inspire research today. His works on the history of mathematics are valuable. He did a lot for the scientific evaluation of János Bolyai. ; ; His main works: ; Handbuch der Theorie der Linearen Differentialgleichungen I–III., 1895–1898, ; J. Bolyai in Memoriam, 1902, ; Vorlesungen über lin. Differential gleichungen, 1908, ; S. F. Gauss’ Werke, 1917, ; Raum, Zeit und Relativitätstheorie, 1920.
