* Losonc, December 28, 1944 – / observer, Tatra researcher. ; ; He completed his primary and secondary school studies (at the Architectural Vocational School, between 1959 and 1963) in his hometown. In 1969–1973, he deepened his knowledge at the Secondary Astronomical Vocational School in Ógyalla, while from 1967 to 2006, until his retirement, he worked at the Tatra Astronomical Institute of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, at the Solar Physics Observatory in Lomnica Peak. His tasks included the examination of the Sun's uppermost atmosphere, the solar age, as well as the observation of solar flares (protuberances) and the so-called solar corona indices (absolute values of the energy radiated from the solar corona). In October 1969, he managed to photograph the spectral lines of ten-ionized argon in the solar corona, which was the most significant Czechoslovak astronomical observation of the year and was reported in several papers. He participated in four scientific expeditions launched to observe total solar eclipses (Niger – 1973, India – 1980, Siberia – 1981, Hungary – 1999). He reported on the Niger expedition in a series of articles in the weekly newspaper Vasárnap. In addition to his astronomical work, mountaineering, nature conservation, tourism, and observing the flora and fauna of the Tatra Mountains are also among his hobbies. He has published articles and books about the past of Tatra research. He is a member of the Spiš Historical Society. He currently lives in Poprad. Four of his children also chose a scientific career: Veronika Scheirich (1977–) historian, Péter Scheirich (1979–) astronomer, János Scheirich (1983–) physicist, Dániel Scheirich (1983–) nuclear physicist. ; ; His main works: ; People, Rocks, Centuries, 2001, ; Our High Tatras, 2004.
