Old cemetery grave markers

According to the church visitation records of the 18th century, the cemetery was spread around the church, which is well proven by the bone finds around the church in the 20th century (e.g. during the enlargement of the sacristy, the excavation of the foundations of the nearby school garden, etc.). Later, the old graves of the cemetery disappeared in the immediate vicinity of the church and the cemetery expanded northward, into the area of the former Fehér estate. The cemetery's large cross was erected by the village judge Albert Gyöpós in 1795 and consecrated by the canon of Nyitra Antal Saffarovich on May 10, 1796. The damaged cross was re-erected by László Gyepes in 1834, and then repaired by János Gyepes in 1881. Today it is in good condition, and many people light candles in front of it on the eve of All Souls' Day. ; In the back corner of the cemetery was the so-called hospital, where cholera and other seriously infectious patients were buried, and later gravediggers' supplies were stored there. The gravediggers were local men. Many old grave markers have survived to this day, mainly made of stone, and to a lesser extent made of wood. The elements of the latter were joined by a heart-shaped nail made of wrought iron. There are also more modest family tombstones, cast entirely of iron. No priest or other dignitary rests in the cemetery, but almost all the prominent figures of village public life are buried here. Such as Alfréd Gyepes, a popular deputy mayor who died early, Erzsébet Gyepes, a community organizer and culture-loving kindergarten teacher, Jr. and Sr. Mihály Karasz, who were among the last known flute players of Zoboralja (the shepherd's staff, bagpipe head, and zither found in their shepherd's legacy are kept by the local Zoboralja Museum), Mária Balkóné Elgyütt, the daughter of the last bagpipe player of Zsér, etc. The cemetery is bordered by rows of trees, which they plan to replace with new trees in the near future. Each tree would preserve the memory of an old Bodok family.
