Old tombstones in the cemetery of Búcsi

Other - other

Entering the Búcs Reformed Cemetery, the first thing a passerby sees are the valuable pink wooden tombstones arranged in military order. At one time, the mourner could find such tombstones in most of the cemetery. The pink limestone (marble) tombstones from Süttő are everywhere in the cemeteries of the former Komárom and Esztergom counties. Behind them is a small grave mound. In the past, only the wealthiest people erected black marble pillars in memory of their deceased loved ones. ; When the World War II memorial was erected in the Búcs cemetery in 1953, the pink marble tombstones from the end of the 18th and 19th centuries were collected from the site and placed at the end of the cemetery, next to the gardens. To prevent them from getting lost, the tombstones were lined up next to the already completed sidewalk in the 1980s. ; Today they are more of a decoration for the cemetery, but on All Souls' Day we can still discover wreaths of remembrance next to some.
