Old bows

hajlok noun -ot, -a (old) Shelter. ; ; In Hetény, the buildings of the cellar row are called hajloks. There are 3 explanations for the name: - wine was so revered that when you entered the cellar, you had to bow your head, bow before the wine. - due to better thermal insulation, the doors on the wine houses were low, so anyone who wanted to enter had to bow, hence the name hajlok. - the cellar is the shelter of wine. ; The hajloks were usually with hipped walls. Hipped houses were built of wood, with sides woven from reeds and plastered with mud. The walls and roof were supported by columns placed in the corners and in the middle. ; The roof of the drinking house was covered, and the access to the roof was from the press house with a ladder. The basement was either flat and sloping, or the stairs were made of stone or brick. The "sutyu", the press and all the tools of cultivation were kept in the press house. In the cellar, the barrels and the cheese cellar, "levó". This is used to fill the wine into the barrel. ; In the drinking room, there was a table, a bench, a chair, and possibly a "bunk" bed. In the inner blind window, above the table, there were the glasses and the wine jug. ; We came across the expression hailok in advertisements around Nitra, where it is used as a Slovak expression: "...predám viničnú chatu - hailok...". That is why we would like not only the word, but also its meaning to survive in Hungarian communities.
