Alexander Rohringer

* Košice, March 28, 1868 – † Budapest, May 4, 1945 / hydraulic engineer, professor at the Technical University, member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences; ; In 1890 he obtained an engineering degree from the Budapest Technical University, and in 1896 he passed the law and political science exam at the Košice Law Academy. In 1898–1899 he carried out the regulation of the Recina stream in Rijeka. From 1903 he was the head of the cultural engineering office in Banská Bystrica, and from 1909 to 1919 he was the head of the Košice Cultural Engineering Office. In 1923 he became a public full professor at the hydraulic engineering department of the Budapest Technical University. He designed numerous river regulation and soil improvement works, and in 1924 he became the ministerial commissioner of the Danube Valley Drainage and Irrigation Company. In 1927–1928, he organized the country's first hydraulic engineering laboratory, which was significant in terms of both education and practice. In 1934–1935, he was the first rector of the József Nádor University of Technology and Economics. He did pioneering work by building a network of wells for monitoring groundwater levels in the Great Plain.
