John Mor Revay

* Prešov, 24 February 1860 – † Budapest, 7 July 1926 / book publisher, lexicon editor ; ; Révai Sámuel (Sebeskellemes, 13 April 1833 – Budapest, 13 November 1908) was a bookseller and publisher, the son of one of the founders of the Révai Brothers Literary Institute. He became involved in the work of his father's publisher as a child. He completed his elementary school studies in his hometown, and from 1878 he studied literature, linguistics and philosophy at the University of Budapest. During his student years, he lived with his uncle, Léo Révai, and helped in his antiquarian bookshop. He catalogued newly arrived books, but neglected his studies. Later, he did not finish his studies, but took up work at the Révai Brothers Literary Institute. He founded the publishing department and eventually became the CEO of the company. His first successful venture was the publication of a cheap novel magazine, then he launched the series Regényvilág, the Hungarian Family Novel Collection for the educated public, and won over Mór Jókai as a collaborator, whose oeuvre series was also published by the publisher in a deluxe edition. János Mór Révay was the editor-in-chief of the 21-volume publication known as the Révai Nagy Lexikona, published between 1911 and 1935, which was based on the Pallas Nagy Lexikona after its publisher went bankrupt and transferred the rights to its largest creditor, Révay. In addition to publishing books, he also wrote articles, primarily on social issues and foreign policy topics. He was also a member of parliament for the Liberal Party. In 1920, he published his memoirs under the title Writers, Books, Publishers.
