* Prešov, 1690 – † Prešov, 23 April 1770 / physician, pharmacist ; ; After completing his primary and secondary education, he obtained his doctorate in medicine in Leiden in 1712. Upon his return home, he was the chief physician of Prešov and Sáros counties. In addition to medical and epidemiological works, he also wrote works on meteorology, botany and dendrology. He was the first on the European continent to attempt vaccination against smallpox (the so-called variolation). The hospital in Prešov bears his name. Since 1970, scientific meetings have been organized in his hometown under the name Raymann Days. The award named after him is awarded by the Slovak Medical Association to “members who have made merit in the prevention of the disease”.
