High School in Miskolc in 1919, and obtained his medical degree from the Faculty of Medicine of the Pázmány Péter University in Budapest in 1925. In 1925–1929, he worked at the Department of Pathology of the László Hospital in Budapest, and in 1929–1935, he worked at the Institute of Pathology and Histopathology of the clinic in Szeged. Between 1935–1942, he was a colleague of the Institute of Pathology No. 2 in Budapest, and in the meantime he was on a study trip as a scholarship holder in Germany (1936) and England (1938). In 1942–1944, he was a professor at the Institute of Pathology at the University of Cluj-Napoca, then returned to Budapest, where he worked at the Cancer Research Institute. From 1947, he worked as the director of the Institute of Pathology at the Faculty of Medicine of the Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca, which was located in Târgu Mureș. In 1949, he organized the Transylvanian Public Health Institute, which set itself the task of combating the most serious infectious diseases in the Székely Land: typhoid fever, dysentery, throat lizard, and intestinal worms. From the 1950s, he worked alternately in Hungary and Romania, and then in 1962 he finally settled in Budapest, where he was appointed professor at the Department of Laboratory Diagnostics at the Semmelweis University of Medicine (SOTE). He retired in 1972. His research areas were bacteriology, serology and oncology. As a pathologist, he dealt with the histopathological characteristics of the myocardium, the endometrium and goiters. He experimentally confirmed the suppurative effect of Salmonella typhi. He was the first in Hungary to point out the significance of bacteriological examinations performed on autopsy material and introduced the methods of tissue culture.
