The first was held in 1955, on the anniversary of the “liberation”. The 1970 one was cancelled because the regime feared it would become an opposition demonstration, since the Soviets had crushed the Prague Spring, this hopeful initiative, just two years earlier. The 1990 one was the last, but it was organized under the name of Physical Education Celebrations (Tělovýchovné slavnosti).
