* Bratislava, December 30, 1839 – † Budapest, November 4, 1903 / literary historian, critic ; ; Son of József Ponori Thewrewk, younger brother of Emil Ponori Thewrewk, older brother of Aurél Török. He began his high school studies in Bratislava, but finished them in Pest, at the Piarist high school. He studied classical philology at the University of Pest. He obtained a teaching certificate in 1860, then taught in a private institution. Between 1862 and 1869 he taught at the Prešov Catholic High School, in 1869 and 1872 at the Bratislava, Budapest II. District High School from 1872, and from 1889 at the II. District High School. He went on several longer study trips abroad (Italian: 1874, German: 1877–1878). In Berlin he found the oldest portrait of King Louis II of Hungary, from Nuremberg. He primarily dealt with Greek drama and the poetry of Sándor Petőfi. He wrote literary history and linguistic studies, secondary school textbooks and humorous works.
