All Saints' Church of the Árpád era in Pogrányi

The village's All Saints' Church was originally Romanesque (the year 1075 is incorrect, the church probably dates back to the 12th century). It was enlarged in the 14th century, mentioned again in 1340, and its lattice vault resting on semicircular guardian stones was completed in 1490. Next to the church, in the Middle Ages, a small Benedictine convent operated under the protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The new tower and the nave with a Prussian dome ceiling were completed in 1628. The church acquired its current form through gradual reconstruction. In 1723, after the chaotic and destructive raids, it was renovated, and in 1778-1783 it was equipped with a new nave, which was placed in the place of the old one that had been demolished and was a continuation of the 15th-century nave with a lattice ceiling. It was rededicated after repairs in 1795. Further repairs were made in 1804 and 1825, and in 1898, after the works at that time, it was rededicated. The church was damaged by the attacks of World War II, and in 1947, a windstorm damaged its roof. In 1990, it was renovated again after the Velvet Revolution, and its sacristy was completed a year later. In the past, it was also used by the townspeople of Nitra during the great epidemics. Today, it has a single nave, with a Gothic sanctuary and a Baroque nave. Its sanctuary is polygonal in plan. The two side altars of the nave are adorned with 18th-century paintings of Saint Imre and Saint John of Nepomuk. The frescoes of the interior were made by Ödön Massányi and Ferenc Pap. The organ in the gallery, made in 1838 by the Bratislava master Károly Klöckner, is still functional, although partially damaged. Among the most beautiful decorations of the church are the Rococo main altar made in the second half of the 18th century and the Classicist pulpit from the end of the 18th century. There is also an 18th century holy water tank decorated with shells. The church has one tower, but historical data mention two towers in ancient times. It has four bells, three of which were cast after the requisitions of the First World War, and one bell, the so-called millennium bell, was cast in 1896. All bells praise the work of the Fischer brothers from Nagyszombat. The parish of the church has had many significant personalities, at least three of whom are writers (János Palkovics, Ferenc Drnovszky, László Nýbl). Even more significant than the church feast is the Feast of the Sacred Heart (since 1931), which attracts large crowds.
