Assumption of Mary Parish Church in Podolini
Building, structure
The present-day city was founded by Saxon settlers after the Tatar invasion. By the end of the century, it already had city walls and city privileges. Podolin, which received the status of a free royal city in 1412 and had a significant craft industry, came under Polish rule as a pawn together with 12 Spiš towns (on November 8, 1412, Sigismund of Luxembourg pawned 13 Spiš towns and three castles to the Polish king Władysław II for 37,000 Czech garaš), from where it only returned to the Kingdom of Hungary in 1772. Its medieval city center has survived the past centuries relatively intact. ; According to old chronicles, the church was founded in 1298. It was built in Gothic style: both its sanctuary and nave are covered with a pointed cross vault, and its sanctuary has buttresses. Its frescoes date from the 14th century. The church's furnishings are now Baroque, with only the 15th-century bronze baptismal font remaining from the Middle Ages (several medieval furnishings were taken to Wisnic in Poland).
