* Debrecen, 18 February 1851 – † Bratislava, 31 May 1913 / physician, surgeon, obstetrician ; ; He completed his secondary school studies in his hometown, and between 1869 and 1877 he was a student at the Faculty of Medicine of the Royal University of Pest. In 1877 and 1882 he was a colleague at the Budapest II. Internal Medicine Clinic, and the first assistant to Professor of Internal Medicine Frigyes Korányi (1828–1913). In 1882, Minister of the Interior Kálmán Tisza (1830–1902) appointed him as the chief physician of the Bratislava State Hospital. He also played an active role in the public life of Bratislava. He was one of the founders and vice-presidents of the Toldy Circle, and in 1891, together with Sándor Vutkovich, a law professor at the Bratislava Academy, he launched the daily newspaper Nyugatmagyarországi Híradó, one of the important objectives of which was to consolidate the Hungarian state idea. He published professional articles, popular writings and travel reports in the newspapers of the time. His field of expertise was primarily public health and epidemiology. He wrote several articles on pneumonia and successfully treated the lung disease of Béla Bartók, who was a student in Bratislava. He was the first to point out that the anti-tuberculosis treatment developed by Robert Koch still needed development, and that the hopes attached to it were exaggerated. Together with Sándor Vutkovich and others, he was the initiator of the third university to be founded in Bratislava, emphasizing in particular the importance of establishing a medical faculty. A.
