In 1868, he enrolled at the University of Pest, where he studied natural sciences and obtained a teaching certificate in 1872. From 1870, he worked as an assistant in the mineral collection of the Hungarian National Museum, in 1873 he became an assistant professor at the university's zoology department, and then from October 1, 1874, he worked as a teacher at the Budapest II. District High School. He was one of the pioneers of Hungarian ethology and adult education and actively contributed to the reform of Hungarian education. He wrote stories, translated, and was active in the field of scientific dissemination as an article writer, lecturer, and editor of journals. He primarily wrote articles on zoological topics, but he also dealt with geographical issues. As a zoologist, he primarily studied the Hungarian hornets. He wrote several high school natural history textbooks and translated popular popular books.
