Imre Palugyay

* Mád, October 6, 1818 – † Kispalugya, December 7, 1866 / geographical writer, legal historian, statistician, corresponding member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences ; ; He completed his secondary school studies in Sátoraljaújhely. He studied philosophy in Rozsnyón and law in Košice. He was admitted to the bar in September 1840. For nearly five years, he was an unpaid trainee at the Hungarian Royal Council of Governors, and then in July 1846 he was appointed penman of the Royal Book Review Office. On December 29, 1847, the Hungarian Academy of Sciences elected him a corresponding member. In 1848, the Minister of the Interior of the first responsible Hungarian government, Bertalan Szemere, appointed him as an employee of the statistical office established under the leadership of Elek Fényes. In February 1849, however, he was already employed by Prince Windisch-Grätz, and was the secretary of the civil administrative studies department.
