* 1764 - † unknown / priest, local history writer ; ; No one has yet worked out his activities in detail, but the Palkovics of Slovak origin have given our history many worthy church figures in Vienna, Bratislava, Nagyszombat, Esztergom and elsewhere (Márton Palkovics, Gyögy I, György II etc.). János Palkovics also studied theology, and after his service in Mocsonok he came to Pográny on November 9, 1791. According to the church visitation record from 1798, in addition to Hungarian, he spoke Slovak, German and French well. In one of his studies, Ágost Balogh presents him as a “man of outstanding education”. In 1824, he wrote a voluminous Latin manuscript about the history of the village, which is kept in his archives to this day. It was never published, but its 53 chapters contain valuable information about the past, internal structure, and folk life of the village, but also touches on the local dialect and lists numerous geographical names.
