Samuel the Great

* Komárom, 30 May 1776 – † Komárom, 10 January 1810 / doctor of medicine ; ; He completed his studies in Bratislava and Debrecen, where he became a friend of Mihály Csokonai Vitéz. He obtained his doctorate in medicine at the University of Vienna. Upon his return home, he became a practicing physician in Komárom and also took an active role in the Komárom Scientific Society. In 1801, during the great smallpox epidemic, he tried to convince people of the importance of smallpox vaccination with his personal example. In this, he was helped by the chief physician of Komárom county, Sámuel Seth (b. Buda, 1768 – 18 January 1810), who was also one of the pioneers of vaccination in Hungary.
