In Felsőszeli in 1970, ninth-graders were forced to take a march to Galántá, the district headquarters, on May 1st. In the picture, the first three boys are carrying flags, followed by one of my classmates holding the village sign, which only had the name of the village in the official language. Four of us had to line up, and it must have been quite cold, because we were still wearing our storm jackets. Based on the announcement from the loudspeaker, we slowly crept towards the open-air stage at the end of town. After the parade, we had to go home; we couldn’t stay to watch the show.
