Murány breakthrough educational trail

Other - other

The Murány Breakthrough Nature Trail is located in the immediate vicinity of the village, which is part of the 39.5-hectare protected area, the Murány Breakthrough (Prielom Muráňa). It was conceived and implemented by László Benedek, a photographer and speleologist who has been exploring the caves and natural values of the area since the 1970s. ; The nature trail starts from the center of the village and leads hikers to the individual stations along the banks of the Murány River. The length of the trail is 3.5 km, with a difference in elevation of 66.5 meters along the route. Visitors can find information boards at six stations. ; The first is located at the starting point. It contains a brief introduction to the nature trail and the route plan. ; The second station is located on the Peskő rock. Under the rock, you can also visit a cave in which a Pleistocene deer antler was found in the 1970s. ; The third sign shows the operation of the mill built in 1920, to which a dam was also built. Later, the energy of the water was used to generate electricity. This small power plant was still in operation in 1955. ; At the fourth station, we get information about the flora and fauna of the area. Among the plants, we can mention the maidenhair fern, pretty maidenhair fern, and Mátra stone lily, but many species of ferns can also be found in the shady, wet areas. Most of them are protected. Among the fauna of the riverbank, you can find the mountain waggler and the kingfisher, but the caves also provide excellent hiding places for bats and owls. ; The fifth sign is placed at the entrance to the rock leading to the Rosszgyári cave. It provides information about the cave and the erosion effects of water. ; The sixth and final tablet is located next to a spring with drinking water, opposite on the other side of the Murány, the remains of the Rosszgyár can be seen.
