* Bártfa, May 14, 1838 – † Košice, November 2, 1909 / art historian, architectural engineer, corresponding member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences ; ; His father was a minor nobleman of Polish origin. He began his studies in his hometown, then studied in Sátoraljaújhely, Rozsnyó, and Levoča. In 1863–1866, he completed technical university studies first in Buda and then in Vienna and obtained an engineering degree. He taught descriptive geometry and architecture for a short time in Bártfa, in 1867–1868 in Körmöcbánya, and between 1868 and 1897 at the Royal High School in Košice. From 1860, he was involved in monument protection and the art historical processing of the built heritage. He was one of the initiators of the preservation and restoration of endangered historic buildings. At the 1878 Paris World Exhibition, he was awarded a certificate of honor and a silver medal for his album presenting medieval and Renaissance Hungarian art. In 1880 he became a corresponding member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
