The population of the village of Vága surrendered to the Czech military at the end of January 1919 - after it had been surrounded for days - after the units of the Hungarian Soviet Republic recaptured Érsekújvár on June 3, 1919, the units of the Hungarian Soviet Republic were stationed in the village the next day. The occupying Czech military fired into the protesting Hungarian crowd, which, in addition to numerous wounded, also had several fatalities. ; In World War I, 77 residents of Vága lost their lives for the Hungarian homeland. The names of the heroes of Vága, carved in marble, can be read on the memorial plaque placed on the monument.
