* Veszele, November 19, 1830 – † Vienna, December 28, 1911 / geologist, politician, professional writer, corresponding member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences; ; son of Alajos Mednyánszky (Révayfalva) and Count Ágnes Majláth. In 1845–1847, Arnold Ipolyi (Ipolykeszi) was his tutor. At this time, he also met Flóris Rómer (Bratislava), who aroused his interest in archaeology. Later, he studied engineering at the Vienna University of Technology and political science and natural sciences at the University of Berlin. After completing his studies, he made a European tour (Poroszo., Italy., Bavaria). In 1864, he was elected president of the Medical and Natural Sciences Association. He was the first to have an article written in Hungarian published in the association's yearbook. In 1867 he was appointed (the last) mining inspector of Selmecbánya, and in this capacity he reorganized the Selmec academy, of which he was also director for a few years. In 1869 he became the lord governor of Trenčín County. From 1878 he lived in Vienna. He carried out diverse literary work, and was the author of numerous geological, mining and historical studies. He donated his valuable family library to the Eötvös College in 1896.
