* Bratislava, December 5, 1721 – † Kassel, November 19, 1796 / mathematician, astronomer ; ; After graduating from the Lutheran Lyceum in Bratislava, he went to Jena in 1741, and two years later he enrolled at the University of Göttingen, where he was a student of János András Segner. He received his doctorate in Halle, then taught in several cities (including Thorn and Rinteln), and in 1769 he was invited to become director of the Kassel Observatory.
