* Rozsnyó, October 24, 1771 – † Rozsnyó, December 23, 1832 / physician, specialist writer ; ; nephew of Márton Marikovszky. His uncle's example also influenced his choice of career. He completed his secondary school studies in Sajógömör, Levoča and Bratislava. Here, István Lumniczer (Bratislava) made him love collecting plants. As a student of the medical faculty of the University of Vienna, he obtained his medical doctorate in 1797. The talented young man was lured to several places (e.g. Russia, Spain), but he returned to his hometown, where he began working as a practicing physician. He successfully took up the fight against dysentery and other infectious epidemics. In Hungary, he was among the first to advocate the introduction of Jenner's method of vaccination against smallpox: in 1802, he published an article on this in the journal Zeitschrift von und für Ungern published by Lajos Schedius, and in 1804, he also addressed an appeal to "respectable branches and orders" on the subject, which was published in print. ; However, the initiative did not have a wide response, so ten years later, in 1814, he published another public education and vaccination propaganda article in both Hungarian and Slovak. In the meantime, he temporarily moved his operations from Rozsnyó to Rimaszombat, but he was soon elected chief physician of the county and therefore returned to his hometown, where he worked in this position until his death. In addition to his office work, he also found time for his hobbies: studying minerals, rocks, and plants. He had a fine collection of minerals and plants, and he arranged his library in a separate building. In 1814, he published a German-language summary of the physical and analytical examination of the mineral waters of Gömör County in Lőcsén. He was the first to study the chemical and physical properties of the water of the Nagyrőce medicinal spring. Although he wrote in four languages, only the Hungarian translation of his paper on the treatment of epilepsy, published abroad in German, was published in the first Hungarian-language medical journal, the Orvosi Tár, which was published from 1831. He was a member of the Jena Mineralogical Society from May 1804. His son, Gusztáv Marikovszky (1806–1892), was also a physician. ; ; Main works: ; The so-called. n. The fervent request of parents, educators, ecclesiastical and secular leaders regarding the extension of cowpox or smallpox vaccination, dedicated with deep respect to the orders of the legally united counties of Gömör and Klein-Honther, 1804, ; Physische und analitische Beschreibung aller Mineralquellen des löblichen Gömörer und Klein-Honther Komitats, 1814, ; His words regarding the extension of cowpox or smallpox vaccination (also in Slovak), 1814, ; On the decomposition, medical power and benefits of the Nagyrőce medical waters, 1829.
