* Andrásfalva, June 18, 1831 – † Budapest, March 23, 1900 / historian, archaeologist, bibliographer, member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences ; ; He completed his high school studies in Miskolc. He was a law student in Timişoara when the Hungarian Revolution and War of Independence of 1848/49 broke out. At that time, he moved to Pest, then volunteered for the 13th Home Guard Battalion and took part in 17 battles. He was promoted to lieutenant in June 1849, but was taken prisoner by the Austrians in September. He managed to escape from the prison in Timişoara at the end of November and hid for a year, then in 1851 he took refuge in his grandfather's house in Andrásfalva. In 1853 he began engineering studies at the University of Pest, but abandoned them due to the death of his grandfather and farmed on the Andrásfalva estate until 1861, while studying French, English, Italian and mastering the local Slavic languages. He also wrote poems at this time. In 1867 he was elected chief notary of Liptó County, in 1875 his vice-governor, but was overthrown two years later. From 1879 to 1893 he worked as the keeper of the National Széchényi Library. The Hungarian Academy of Sciences elected him a member in 1880, but he was also a member of the Hungarian Historical Society, the Hungarian Geographical Society, the Hungarian Heraldic and Genealogical Society, and the National Archaeological and Anthropological Society. He was an active member of the Hungarian Carpathian Association (MKE) at its inception and for a few more years, and was its vice-president in 1877–1880.
