Joseph Liszka

* Köbölkút, April 6, 1956 – / ethnographer, associate professor ; ; He began his school studies in his native village, graduating from the Hungarian Gymnasium of Érsekújvár (since 2008 again named after Péter Pázmány) in 1975. He studied archaeology and ethnography at the Faculty of Archaeology of ELTE in Budapest between 1975 and 1980. He obtained his doctoral degree in 1985 and his PhD degree in 2003. He habilitated at ELTE in 2008. In 1980–1991 he was an archaeologist at the Járási (today: János Thain) Museum in Érsekújvár, and in 1991–1996 he was an ethnographer at the Danube Riverside Museum in Komárom. From 1997 he was the head of the Ethnological Center of the Forum Institute in Komárom. In 2004–2006, he was a lecturer at the Konstantin Philosopher University in Nitra, and from 2006 at the Selye János University in Komárom. In 1989, he re-launched the Czechoslovak Hungarian Ethnographic Society, of which he was president until 1997. He edited the Society's newsletter entitled Hírharang. He is the initiator and editor of several book series (Interethnica, Notitia historico-ethnologica, Local and regional monographs, Acta Ethnologica Danubiana). He is a member of several Slovak, Hungarian and German scientific societies. His research field is primarily the examination of interethnic relations and the mapping of small sacral monuments in southern Slovakia, which he conducts together with his current wife, Ilona L. Juhász. In 2002, he was awarded the Ányos Jedlik Prize of the Szímő Municipality, and in 2005, the Arany János Prize of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
