* Modor, December 13, 1816 – † Bratislava, November 4, 1884 / classical philologist, teacher, corresponding member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (1859). ; ; He completed his high school studies in his hometown, studied philosophy at the papal ref. college, and theology at the Bratislava Evangelical Lyceum. During his time as a candidate for the faith, he began to deal with classical philology out of private interest. In 1841–1842, he studied history and classical philology at the universities of Leipzig and Göttingen. Upon his return home, from 1843 he taught Greek at the Bratislava Lyceum, and was the director of the institution between 1861–1868. He contributed to the compilation of the curriculum to be developed for Protestant schools. In his old age, he suffered from illness, which led to his retirement as a teacher in 1880. He wrote the first Greek grammar in Hungarian. Together with Endré Michnay (Nagylévárd), he published the Code of Laws of the City of Buda in both Hungarian and German, with a preface and explanations, the manuscript of which he discovered in the library of the Bratislava Higher Realist School.
