In 1919, he received his doctorate in chemistry and physics from the Budapest University of Science and Technology. He primarily dealt with colloid and fat chemistry. His fat refining process and the device used for this purpose were purchased by the I. G. Farben company. His literary work is also significant. In his four-volume work Ubbeholda-Goldschmidt: Handbuch der Chemie und Technologie der Öle und Fette (Leipzig, 1910), he wrote the chapters on Inorganic Raw Materials and Auxiliary Materials of Soaps, Production of Hard Soaps, Production of Soap Powders and New Detergents and Bleaching Agents. He died of blood poisoning.
